RMJM Liverpool Tower Approved

The latest tall building proposed for Plot 3a, Princes Dock in Liverpool has been unanimously approved by the planning committee meaning it can go ahead.

Developed by the Mersey Property Company and designed by award winning firm, RMJM, the two block proposal will sit on the north side of the dock to the immediate south of City Lofts tower.

The plans had had a bit of a struggle to get through the planning system with the local council originally hostile to what had been proposed - a state of affairs that forced the developer and architect to reconsider their design with three floors lopped off the height reducing it to 105 metres which will still make it the tallest tower on the dock and the second tallest in Liverpool after Beetham West.

Included in the scheme are 183 apartments within the tower, a 150 bedroom three star hotel, an underground car park and an office section. There will also be new pedestrian routes through the site opening the area around Princes Dock up more to Bath Street that runs behind and 200,000 set aside by the developer for construction of a "super crossing" across King Edward St for better linkage with the Central Business District.

The developer has already announced they are aiming for a March 2008 start and with no site clearance needed there are few things to stop the developer from getting under way as soon as they choose.

This is sure to not be the last residential tower proposed in Liverpool, the question is when the master-planned tower next to Alexandra will come out and plans for the King Edward Tower move awa
