New Office Building Starts In Croydon

This slick glass box is the first new tall office building to be going up in Croydon for over 20 years.

Developed by Terrace Hill Ltd for a site at 100 George Street just a stones-throw away from the planned Croydon Gateway development, it's a 16 floor scheme containing 18,581 square metres of office space within and retail space on the ground floor.

In effect massed as a cube with efficiently rectangular-like floor-plates, the highly reflective glass curtain walling has vertical detailing running up it offering just a spot of colour in the form of a few red streaks contrasting with a pattern-work of blue. The end result is something much more polished than those familiar with the overdose of sixties concrete in Croydon will be used to.

As far as offices go there's few in Croydon in a better position. 100 George Street is situated diagonally opposite East Croydon Station making it an ideal location to get to, only a short train-ride from London Bridge Station.

This is the second tall scheme to begin in Croydon in recent months. It still has one of the premier skylines in the U.K but this position had stagnated for many years with almost nothing tall being built there. Indeed the last building built over 50 metres was the 15 floor Delta Point office building in 1985.

Now however 100 George Street, plus the joint tallest in the Borough, Altitude 25 under construction, plus the promise of more on the way sooner than later, this means that Croydon will retain its position as one of London's three top skylines and a bit of a surprise to those who don't expect it.
